PLANNING & BOOKING YOUR FLIGHT
PLANNING & BOOKING YOUR FLIGHTS
For the wedding, we recommend our guests fly in to Cape Town International Airport. However, if you end up needing to fly into Johannesburg, there are many airlines that do cheap and easy flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town like SafAir. Just remember to give yourself enough time to pass through border control and customs before the local flight.
HOW LONG IS IDEAL FOR VISITING CAPE TOWN?
Because the flight is longer, if you wanted to make this trip over a vacation, 1-2 weeks is a great length of time to be able to see and experience a lot of what South Africa has to offer.
SHOULD WE COME BEFORE THE WEDDING OR STAY LONGER AFTER THE WEDDING?
This depends on your schedule and also your preference in weather. Generally speaking, if. you like the hot summer months and sunny weather you might want to shift the majority time in South Africa to March/Before the wedding. However, if you prefer it to be a little cooler, pushing the majority of your trip for after the wedding may be more ideal as the weather tends to start cooling down, but that does come with more chance of the odd wind and/or rain.
FLIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS —section in progress.
DIRECT FLIGHTS (from NYC)
UNITED
Has a direct flight from Newark Airport. It’s a longer flight, but honestly, we thought it was great. Just remember to get up and stretch your legs regularly.
FLIGHTS (from Nashville/Atlanta)
BRITISH AIRWAYS
Most flights stop in London before heading South.
DELTA
From Atlanta there are some non-stop and one-stop flights.
AIRLINES WE DO NOT RECOMMEND
AIR ALGERIE
The flight was very cheap, but the airplane smelled like urine and copious amounts of air freshener trying to cover that smell up. The in flight food was almost inedible, and the lay over in the airport was fine, but they did not take cards or have an ATM in the airport with very few shops open to get water or snacks.
Would we take a flight with them again?
Probably, if it meant traveling to a new place for super cheap, but knowing what we know now, we would rather find a different route or go prepared with hand sanitizer, cash, and plenty of snacks for the flight.
