Penguins from the Observation Deck, April 2024

SEE THE PENGUINS AT BOULDERS BEACH

Further down from the Simonstown harbor, you can find the South African penguins!

There are boardwalks around the penguin habitats that are free to wander as well as paid observatory areas.

You can also book tours, or use the beach next to the protected area, and if you’re lucky, you might just be able to swim near the penguins.

CAPE OF GOOD HOPE

Keep going further South of Boulders beach, is the Cape of Good Hope. There are lots of ways to get there from renting e-bikes, or taking a tour.

FRANSCHHOEK WINE TRAM

Plan a day out vineyard hoping using the Franschhoek Wine Tram! You find the available routes and purchase tickets online.

You can explore the vineyards, enjoy wine tastings with snacks, cheeseboards, and different restaurants. Each vineyard has it’s own unique offerings, but the tram is a great way to explore without having to worry about driving.

EXPLORING VINEYARDS IN THE CAPE WINELANDS

There is no shortage of vineyards, and if you like wine, there’s many beautiful ones to visit. Many of them also have incredible restaurants on the premises, or other activities you can do, like Segway tours, horseback riding, and much much more.

BEACH
If your job is just… Beach, then you’ll have no problems at all finding plenty of beaches to visit!

Note: You may want to weight your visit to be mostly before the wedding if you like the hot weather and perfect beach vibes, as moving into April the weather really begins to cool down and there’s a higher chance of wind or rain.

CLIFTON BEACHES

HERMANUS - A BEACH TOWN OUTSIDE THE CITY

Great beach town a drive away from Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Great local markets, small shopping area with souvenirs, and beach town vibes. There are lots of beaches, hikes, things to do on the water in this area.

HORSEBACK RIDING

One of Dolci’s favorite things to do in South Africa is horseback riding on the beach, specifically at Pearly Beach Horse Trails .

Note: This one is a little further out of the way and would require access to a car or prearranged car service as calling an Uber from the area would be difficult. Located about an hour and a half from Hermanus. This one is unique in a few ways:

  • ~3-4 hour ride to the beach with a break and back

  • includes photos and videos

  • one of the only beaches that allows riders to gallop on the beach.

  • the guide, Sarah, is fantastic with all levels of riders!

Other Places to Ride:

  • Noordhoek

SPA DAY SPOIL

There are awesome, and affordable spas all over Cape Town and Stellenbosch.

Life Day Spa in the V&A water front was bookable the day before, and an hour massage was about $46-55 depending on the type.

For a thorough spoil, though a bit closer to cost of a spa day in the states, the Lanzrac Spa does amazing massages and facials ending with a glass of bubbles and a lounge on the deck over looking a vineyard after. — reservations are a must.

GOLFING

ERINVALE GOLF CLUB
One of the most prestigious golf courses in the world set in Andrew’s hometown of Somerset West with views of the Helderberg Mountain.

(For non-golfers, there’s Lourensford Estate just down the road if you want to stay close, but want to explore something else while a member of your party is here)
