SAFE AREAS AROUND STELLENBOSCH AND CAPE TOWN

We have block booked rooms at Stellenbosh Hotel, but we have put together a guide of neighborhoods/areas both close enough to access the shuttle from the wedding in addition to other areas you might want to consider during your trip!

STELLENBOSCH

Stellenbosch is a charming town in South Africa’s Western Cape, known for its picturesque landscapes, historic architecture, and world-class wineries. While generally safe, it's always a good idea to stay in well-known and secure areas.

RECOMMENDED NEIGHBORHOODS IN STELLENBOSCH FOR TOURISTS:

Dorp Street Area (Smaller part of central stellenbosch)

WHY IT’S SAFE:
One of the oldest and most historic streets in Stellenbosch, it's well-kept and frequented by tourists, making it a safe area with an upscale feel.

WHAT TO DO:
Stroll along Dorp Street and enjoy its beautifully preserved Cape Dutch architecture, cafes, and antique shops.

ATMOSPHERE:
Historic and elegant, offering a blend of culture and comfort.

ACCOMODATION:
Boutique hotels, B&Bs, and stylish apartments in an authentic setting.

NOTE: Dorp Street is the Historic street that we would recommend staying around and will be near the Wedding Drop Off Shuttle running from the Venue. Details for shuttle service TBA.

Central stellenbosch (broader central area)

WHY IT’S SAFE:
The town center is a lively, tourist-friendly area with plenty of foot traffic, particularly during the day. It’s well-patrolled and home to many students, adding to its vibrancy.

WHAT TO DO:
Explore historic buildings, visit art galleries, and dine at trendy restaurants and cafes.

ATMOSPHERE:
Bustling yet quaint, perfect for walking around and experiencing the town’s history and charm.

ACCOMODATION:
Boutique hotels, guesthouses, and apartments in close proximity to restaurants and wine bars.

Along with these areas, there are also many hotels and larger guest houses (if traveling in a group) along with other places to stay such as on wine estates/vineyards in the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek areas which will be very safe as well as. Note most vineyards also have private security generally as a deterrent.

CAPE TOWN & SURROUNDING AREAS

(RECOMMENDED AREA BEFORE/AFTER THE WEDDING WEEKEND)

Cape Town is a beautiful city with many diverse neighborhoods, each offering unique experiences for visitors. While it is generally safe for tourists, it's essential to choose areas that are known for being secure, especially at night.

We have recently stayed at the The Grey Hotel and The Old Foundry Hotel for being out in the city most of our days, but there are so many hotels from $40-60 a night and up depending on how luxurious you’d like your stay, so we generally don’t even recommend the hassle of AirBnB unless you’re planning a trip for a large group!
