Wedding Travel Checklist

Make sure you’re ready for travel with these recommendations1

PASSPORT

  • Must have 6 months+ validity from the day you land in South Africa

FLIGHTS

See our info on flights here.

ESIM

If your phone has E-SIM capability, we highly recommend getting one for your stay in South Africa as it can be much cheaper than international roaming charges!

  • Our recommendation: Airlo

DOWNLOAD UBER APP

Uber is our primary recommendation for how to get around South Africa. Rides are affordable and it’s often recommended to use an Uber anytime after 11 PM unless you’re walking short distances.

  • Uber

INTERNATIONAL DRIVERS LICENSE

AAA - Note not all rental companies require this; please check in advance. Note: South Africa does drive on the opposite side of the road than the US.

CHARGING ADAPTERS

South Africa has its own power adapter, but many hotels will use EU or UK adapters. Therefore, it’s advised to carry one South African adapter and one universal adapter with EU/UK capabilities!

Please Note that the voltage is much higher than the US. While phone and computer chargers are generally built for 120V-240V, it’s worth checking your chargers as well as any other electrical items you plan to bring (flat iron/curling iron/hair dryer)

HOTEL BOOKINGS

See our guide on where to stay

  • You can also book a stay at the Stellenbosch Hotel where we have block booked rooms for check in Friday, 4th April with a check out of 6th April.

  • Note, there are also many options places to stay in and around Stellenbosch including many wine farms, Airbnbs, and boutique hotels!

RESTAURANT BOOKINGS

Fancy restaurants book up FAST, so be sure to book ahead of time, ASAP!

Some of our favorites/recommendations:

  • Waterside

  • La Columbe

  • The Potluck Club

EXPERIENCES, TOURS, ETC

Book these in advance for bigger experiences, tours, horseback riding, fishing/boating, shark cage diving penguin day tours, and others, you’ll want to book sooner rather than later.

For hiking and Table Mountain cable cars, the aquarium, hop and hop off bus, those can generally be done day of and don’t require advanced booking.

If you plan to do the wine tram, you can do your research on all the available vineyards for each line and book a day or two before, or the night before is generally ok if you need the flexibility!
